I love it. I love it. I love it. There, that's done. This Caribbean island retreat hotel is the work of Milan based Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola. The hotel is the W Hotels Retreat & Spa on Vieques Island off Puerto Rico. I will have to bring this to the attention of Mrs Seven and plan an escape. Ah but so many plans come to ...........
Urquiola has an assured approach to palette. The colour combined with the thin metal framed seating and elegant lighting makes for a light open design.
Maybe I also like the design because we are lucky enough to have one of the chairs featured in our own home except in ours its in tan rather black leather. We acquired ours on Cows Lane in Dublin. The chair was originally designed for a Brazilian club and the designer's name eludes me. If you know who it is let me know.
Many of us would be satisfied with using a single timber for wall paneling but Urquiola has mixed materials in a wonderful way here using dark treated timber with pale bleached driftwood like boards, most appropriate for an island haven. The cushions and wall art play peacock to the mute backgrounds they sit on. The concrete floor also acts as an untreated canvas for the splashes of colour provided by select pieces.
