Really Old School Design

No this isn't a history blog, although I do intend to feature some historical interiors as a contrast to what's happening right now. These images of the Forth Form Room at Harrow School in London really show only one colour and this monochrome accentuates the joinery details. Its old simple and clean, if a little dusty. The room was built in 1615 and departing students have been encouraged to carve their names into the woodwork. This process has given the timber a great texture that adds to the patina that occurs as the timber ages. The room was designed, built and then evolved.
To me there is a connection between this and the new clothes shop I featured a little while ago and also to what designer Paul Smith is doing with his retail in Paris. Old things assembled in new environments and new things gathered in old environments is where it's at.
