Textile Queen Lucienne Day

I've written recently about graphic design in the 1950s in New York at Blue Note Records. During the same period the British textile designer Lucienne Day was working in the UK. Her work shares common ground with Reid Miles in that they both loved bold geometric blocks of colour and pattern.

Day also worked in conjunction with her husband Robin the furniture designer and she supplied designs to the Paper and Textile firms of Heals and Cole & Sons. Her work was deeply influenced by European abstract painters such as Miro, Kandinsky and Klee.

I love her work. I think there may have been a Day inspired wallpaper in my bedroom at home as a kid.
She believed in good design being affordable for everyone, appropriate now more than ever.
